I must have taken the Canal trail<\/a> for granted while growing up because I was in my forties the first time I rode the entire trail on a bicycle. It was a beautiful ride, I started at the sandwich side recreational park and headed south toward the train bridge. There’s a surprising amount of elevation for a trail that runs directly next to a canal for seven miles. I swear I’ve run and walked along both sides for several miles but never gone the distance. And even though Sandwich<\/a> is named for the Earl of Sandwich, I think, coincidentally there’s a good number of sandwich shops near the canal recreation area. You can get a scenic workout in and then get a great meal<\/a>, or pick something up and sit at one of the many picnic tables there. As long as the wind isn’t too strong you won’t lose the whole meal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although it’s in the next town, Mashpee, Naukabout<\/a> is where I ended up going after getting my cycle on at the canal. I was sweaty and needed the dip in Wakeby lake<\/a> before changing clothes and getting a few good craft beers. It’s a very cool brewery but I’m noticing a trend in New England where the breweries typically only stay open until nine PM at the latest. I don’t know if this has something to do with particular state or local laws, but I’d certainly like to stay a little later sometimes. Regardless it was a good time, there was no food truck there that night so I had to go to another place for pizza afterward. Still totally worth it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
