Located Near Voluntown, CT Pauchaug State forest offers a variety of recreational activities like hiking, biking, fishing and equestrian trails. My son and I hiked the Laurel trail on a weekend. It was an easy three and a half miles except for the sections of flooded trail. We had to skip the first portion and once we were within a half mile of the Jeep the trail sections became to wet to get around. Luckily I knew I had an extra pair of shoes and socks in my Wrangler so I picked my son up and let my feet get soaked to wrap up the trail.
Looking for the legends
We definitely found the colonial era cemetery that I had read about previous to exploring these woods, I had researched this state forest when writing a blog for 10 haunted hikes in New England. I had not yet been here but I figured if I wrote about it, I would have to go eventually. Thankfully there was no woman in white spirit or disembodied voices that day. Who knows what could happen next time, there is 26,477 acres after all.
