The first time I went to Trustom pond I was looking for a place to walk my dog Lucy, so I was a little perturbed by the fact that there’s no dogs allowed in the preserve. But once I got back there again, sans dog, I found what a beautiful trail it actually is. this 787 acre refuge only has a few miles of trails but the view from the observation decks are absolutely breathtaking.
Limited access
Depending on the place or it’s purpose determines whether it upsets me or excites me that the access is limited. For Trustom Pond it wavers a bit. There is no allowance for any boaters on the water, that includes paddle boats, kayaks and canoes. It’s bad because it’s a gorgeous pond and man would I like to get out on that water and just cruise around. On the other hand, I like that the fish and foul are left alone here. They look so peaceful without the roaming packs of paddlers disturbing their chi.
This is a great area to watch birds or take a short afternoon hike. Boating on the ponds are not allowed, so as much as I’d love to kayak this area, I can’t.

Ocean Mist
Not to far from Trustom Pond is Ocean Mist, a small oceanside restaurant where you can find good drinks and live music. I’ve been here several times, even taking my son during the day and having a great time.
