Irreverent Warriors Hike, Norwich CT

2022 is the first year I’ve had the opportunity to attend the Norwich CT Irreverent Warriors silky hike. before I moved back to Rhode Island in December of 2019 my friends from the Marine Corps had told me about the hike. But in 20′ and 21′ I believe the hike had been cancelled due to covid. Such is life but this September they were back at it. It was great to get together with such a good group of guys, the hike leader as well as all the other other volunteers were enthusiastic during the entire event. Everyone I met was friendly and happy to be there.

Norwich CT

Twelve miles through Norwich was no joke, the city is situated in the hills around where the Yantic and Shetucket rivers merge to become the Thames river. Founded in 1659 the access to flowing water and other port cities thanks to the Thames the city has a long history of manufacturing. Norwich is known as the Rose of New England, There’s very little information as to why this name exists. After walking twelve miles through Norwich there doesn’t seem to be much reason for it to still be named that. The city has great potential, and some enterprising businesses have seemed to be trying. From breweries to condos built in beautiful old textile mills to revamped Victorian colonial homes, you can see the people with vision really trying to bring it back.

Epicure Brewery

Epicure hosted a stop for the Irreverent Warriors hike and honestly made us feel right at home. All the craft beer was on the house and everyone had a place to sit and take a load off. Hotdogs and ice cream was served and it was a great forty-five minutes relaxing before heading back out again. I’m going to be going back there very soon and probably very often.
